0301-w Point Montara Lighthouse
This original 15" x 22" watercolor painting depicts a scene along the coastline of Montara California. It portrays a lighthouse and an adjoining Inn above beautiful red clay cliffs. Below the lighthouse, ocean waves lap up on the sands of the beach making this a very tranquil scene.

0274-w Sunset Canoe
This is a non-original study of a watercolor painting called Misty Bark Lake by Shelley Prior. In my 15" x 22" version, I add a canoe with two canoers, and a pier to her composition. In the distance the sun sets over the hills creating beautiful orange and yellow patterns in the foreground lake. As one of my favorite subjects, reflections in water dominate the composition.

0275-w Stained Glass Butterflyfish
This 15" x 22" original watercolor takes advantage of the shimmering effect created by metallic watercolor paints. It depicts a single butterflyfish against a checkered blue background. The brightly colored fish stands out against the shimmering blue background blocks.

0278-a Cracked Liberty
Cracked Liberty is an original 16" x 20" acrylic painting on a cradled birch wood panel. It depicts a 1776, 13-state version of the American flag which appears cracked and weathered. I took advantage of the properties of Acrylic Crackle Paste to create the appearance of weathered wood. Sometimes the acrylic medium provides unique and unusual ways to create art. Some of my most unusual paintings have been done in Acrylics.

0281-w Swan Wake in Gold
This 15" x 15" original watercolor painting depicts a swan in silhouette swimming toward the viewer and creating a wake behind it. A beautiful gold and orange sunset fills the sky as it sinks over a distant mountain peak.

0284-a Golden Spire
This Poured Acrylic Abstract Painting was created by pouring different colored paints through a collander and letting the paint form the desired pattern. The completed painting is 11" x 14" in size and is enhanced with glossy Epoxy Resin overglaze which gives it a terrific sheen that can't really be seen or appreciated in a photograph.

Fire in the Sky
This 10" x 10" original acrylic painting is an abstract painting done by pouring acrylic paints of differing colors through a colander The resulting pour is then tipped in different directions to create a "flowing" appearance.

0292-a Pull Chain Floral
This 12" x 16" original acrylic painting was started as an experiment but eventually turned into a finished painting in its own right. Pull-chains were used to create interesting effects that are not easily achieved by the use of brushes or palette knives. It depicts an imaginary plant with unusual multi-colored flowers.

0296-a Seven Colored Tanager
A newly completed original 18" x 24" acrylic painting depicting a beautiful bird called a Seven-Colored Tanager. This bird is endemic to forests of north-eastern Brazil and is considered to be an endangered species. I was particularly drawn to the incredibly bright colors of its feathers which allowed me to break out my brightest colored paints. It’s not often that I get to use such bright colors in one of my paintings. Painting the main branch was challenging because of the fascinating texture of the fungi growing on the branch. This was also my first attempt at using a bokeh background which I created using an airbrush. This made for an exciting effect and something new for my painting style.

0258-w Blackburnian Warbler
This 11" x 15" original watercolor was my first painting while recovering from the Covid-19 virus. Despite trembling hands from a minor stroke, I conquered this challenge while at Magee Rehab in Philadelphia. I received the source photo from my sister-in-law who is an avid birder.

0257-w Rainbow Kingfisher
This 15" x 11" original watercolor depicts a beautifully crested Kingfisher perched on a tree branch. I placed this scene into a pond of water to improve the composition. I utilized the unique properties of watercolors to create a rainbow effect in the water.

0249-w Rainbow Rose
This 22” x 15” original watercolor depicts a rose in full bloom, but with a twist. Each petal is painted in a different color, thus the title “Rainbow Rose”. Truly a rose of a different color!

0299-o View of the Milky Way
This 18" x 24" original oil painting deploys an idea I’ve had for quite a while. “View of the Milky Way” depicts a view of the night sky as seen through a row of evergreen trees. The trees guide the viewer’s eye directly toward the stars and the Milky Way. I added two elements that were not in my original source photograph which only depicted stars in the night sky. I used my artistic license and included an image of the Milky Way within the starfield. I also used the colors of a sunset to add interest and drama to the painting.

0231-w Off the Alaskan Coast
Created in a watercolor class taught by Mick McAndrews in 2016, this original watercolor depicts a boat off the coast of Alaska.

0259-w Purple and White Iris
This 15" x 11" original watercolor was started while I was recovering from three months of fighting Covid-19. It depicts a beautiful purple and white iris. The folds in the petals are very difficult to render convincingly so I almost gave up on this painting prematurely. Thankfully I persevered and completed a very successful work of art.

0254-c Pink on Parade
This 15" x 22" Original Casein painting depicts a single branch of a cherry blossom tree in bloom. It was painted using an unusual milk-based medium called Casein. Although casein has been used by artists for thousands of years but is mostly overlooked today. It results in a beautiful velvety matte finish which may be visible in this photo.

0253-o Misty Morning in Bucks County PA
Taken from an Action News weather forecast this scene depicts a misty morning somewhere in Bucks County Pennsylvania. I liked the scene so much I captured it from my TV and painted it immediately after. I love the moody appearance created by the low-hanging bank of fog.

0238-o Lone Rowboat Reflections
This 10" x 8" original oil painting is the recipient of several awards in local Pennsylvania art shows. It depicts a beautiful close-up of a colorful rowboat and the amazing reflection created by the ripples in the water.

0104-a Glacial Divide
This 24" x 24" painting was made using acrylic paint. The medium lends itself well to the sweeping nature of the white glaciers set against the dark gray mountains. Brightly-colored leaves tell us that although there is snow and ice everywhere, it is still autumn.

0246-o New Zealand Egret
This 22" x 15" original oil painting was painted from a source photo that depicts an Egret perched on a branch in the late afternoon sun. I decided to change the background to black to create an entirely different mood.

This inviting 15" x 22" original watercolor depicts a charming farm blanketed with winter white.

0136-a 3D-Daisies (framed)
Bright white flowers appear to stick right out from the paper against a dark burgundy background. The 3D effect was created using acrylic modeling paste (nearly an inch off the surface of the painting). As such I usually encourage viewers to actually touch this painting.

0093-a Rainbow Peppers
This 20" x 16" Original still life painting depicts an attractive arrangement of colorful bell peppers around a ceramic pot. The pot itself was self-made during my college years. This painting was created as part of my first Acrylics lesson in 2005.

0077-w Tiger on the Wall
This 15” x 22” original watercolor painting, completed in 2004, is taken directly from a visit to the Philadelphia Zoo. The paper's texture helps to convey the roughness of the tiger's coat (when viewed up close).

0119-a The Wheat Field
This 17” x 22” original acrylic painting depicts a wheat farm somewhere in the USA. As it came entirely out of my imagination, no such place actually exists. It is rare for me to paint from imagination, but this one worked out rather well.

This 11” x 14” original oil painting was painted in a 2010 class at the Wayne Art Center in Pennsylvania. It depicts a still life setup which is dominated by a bright blue tablecloth.

0233-w Lighthouse and Surf
This 15" x 22" watercolor entitled "Lighthouse and Surf" was painted in a class given by Mick McAndrews at the Wayne Art Center in 2016. It depicts a lighthouse with waves crashing on the rocks below. It is a simple composition, but its color harmony makes this painting shine.

0046-w Masted Reflections
This 12" x 16" Watercolor from 2003 was my first attempt at painting reflections in water. This subject would become one of my favorite to depict in watercolor. Reflections pose a particular problem for the painter because they change depending on the state of the water.

0173-a Ripples of Patriotism
An imaginative 16" x 20" (2010) original acrylic painting, this artwork depicts an American flag as it would appear in a pool of clear water. The pool has been disturbed by falling drops of water.

0253-w Dawn In New Hope
At first glance this original watercolor may appear to be a duplicate of my oil painting entitled "Misty Morning in Bucks County". Look a little closer and you'll see this is a NEW painting of the same scene. The first painting was an oil painting of a scene I saw on an Action News weather forecast. This new painting is done in watercolor. It seemed obvious at first that this scene was perfect for the watercolor medium, and it was. Watercolor lends itself well to moody scenes and misty conditions. I call this new painting “Dawn in New Hope”, and it’s large for a watercolor at 30” x 22”.

0137-w Snow Covered
This 22" x 15" gem is a non-original study of a painting by artist Kris Parins. It depicts a snow-covered hill with large boulders sticking out of the snow.

250-a Solar Prominences
This large 30" x 40" original acrylic painting is an abstract concept depicting different versions of solar events. The idea came to be during the solar eclipse of 2018 and morphed into a more encompassing composition which includes lunar scenes and other celestial objects. The bright colors and random shapes create interest as the eye is directed through the composition. This is truly a diversion from my usual paintings which depict landscapes and seascapes in a realistic manner.

0236-o Striped Majesty
In-Progress painting of an Asian Tiger.
